CHANGING TRENDS IN PRESENTATION BY RIUME EFETIE.

“Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow”. This great saying by Ronald .E. Osborne, clearly captures the changing trends in the broadcast presentation industry. The trends can be evaluated from many perspectives. Right now,the presentation profession is known as the platform of Fame, glamour and fortune.

These perks are achieved by persistent hardwork, diligence and going the extra mile. The reason is because “you are as good as your last performance” in today’s era of stiff competition in digital broadcasting as against analogue. It must be noted that better qualified professional presenter’s have emerged in the industry since the introduction of digital broadcast presentation training (as against analogue training). Furthermore,a major attraction from a trained professional presenter is the availability of a range of employment opportunities.

The presenter can now perform beyond the traditional forte of radio or Tv broadcasting as a Deejay,a Compere,a Master of Ceremonies MC,a Diction or Phonics tutor,an Events manager,a Voice-over artiste,a Red carpet host,a Receptionist e.t.c. Closely related to this perspective,is that the profession has assumed a multi-tasking dimension. For instance,we can observe that the presenter today is a producer,(producing a documentary or a live broadcast), tomorrow he/she is a news reporter or a newscaster and next tomorrow a marketer and very likely the candidate sponsors want their products or services to be associated with. The presenter is now a stickler for excellence and versatility. In order words, the presenter of today is not complete until he/ she is armed with marketing skills.

The likes of Soni Irabor,Bisi Olatilo,Jacob Akinyemi Johnson JAJ,Frank Edoho,Helen Paul and a hosts of other professional presenters come to mind. Another changing trend in presentation can be viewed from the perception that there’s no hidden place for today’s presenter.He/she knows that excelling in this profession in the midst of stiff competition will attract a large following of listeners or viewers due to top quality professional voices from broadcast stations. As members of the fourth estate of the realm and as the window shop and salesman of a broadcasting outfit, the profession is now offering wonderful opportunity for networking as a team of specialist comprising of Hosts,Comperes,MC’S, Comedians,DJS, Singers, Actors e.t.c.

In closing,we can now agree that today’s presenter is a stickler for excellence, creative innovation,Fame, glamour, fortune,a multi-tasking job as well as the profession for the availability of a range of employment opportunities in today’s digital era of broadcasting.Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow”.
