Professional Profile
Uche Obaseki is a veteran Nigerian broadcaster, media production professional, theatre artiste, author and trainer with more than two decades of experience in broadcasting, production, content development and professional media education.
She built much of her broadcasting career with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, joining the organisation in 2001 and working extensively with Radio One in Lagos. She later became Head of the Production Department at the National Broadcast Academy, formerly the FRCN Training School.
Obaseki joined WABMA in 2020 as Head of Production and Content Development and currently serves as Production Lead, bringing extensive professional practice and training experience to the Academy.
Broadcasting Career
Obaseki joined Radio Nigeria in January 2001 and developed a long career within public broadcasting.
Her work with Radio One exposed her to the disciplines of professional broadcasting, programme production, content development and presentation. Over more than two decades, she built experience both in front of and behind the microphone.
Her professional development within FRCN eventually extended from programme practice into the training of other media professionals.
National Broadcast Academy
At the National Broadcast Academy, NBA, Obaseki rose to become Head of the Production Department.
In this role, she contributed to the professional training of broadcasters and media practitioners, drawing on her experience in broadcasting, production and the performing arts.
Her work at the Academy placed her at an important point between professional practice and media education, helping trainees understand not only how content should sound or appear on air, but also how professional programmes are conceived, structured and produced.
WABMA Career
Obaseki joined WABMA in 2020 as Head of Production and Content Development.
Her work has centred on strengthening the practical production component of WABMA's professional education, particularly in areas related to content development and broadcast production.
She currently serves as Production Lead, contributing both professional expertise and teaching experience to WABMA's academic and production activities.
Her involvement since 2020 also makes her one of the longer serving members of WABMA's current professional team.
Theatre and Creative Arts
Obaseki's creative background predates her broadcasting career.
Her interest in theatre developed during her school years and eventually led her to study at the University of Port Harcourt, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
That theatre background complements her broadcasting and production work. Performance, interpretation, storytelling, voice and audience awareness all have direct applications to broadcast production and professional presentation.
Author and Content Creator
Obaseki is also an author of several works of fiction and nonfiction.
Contribution to WABMA
As Production Lead, Obaseki helps connect WABMA's classroom instruction with the practical processes through which professional media content is conceived, developed and produced.
Her combination of broadcasting, theatre, writing, production and professional training gives students exposure to someone who understands content from several perspectives: performance, storytelling, production and audience communication.
Her multidisciplinary experience is particularly useful as WABMA expands its teaching beyond traditional radio and television into multimedia and digital content production.
